  Overview

The Identity Management Education Program is a tightly integrated set of activities intended to provide the Department of Defense with a high quality program in Identity Management Education. During this phase of the program, the instructional aspects of the Identity Management Education Program (IMEP) at the Naval Postgraduate School will be launched. These will include: executive education; a certificate program for DOD personnel; resident education for U.S. Military officers and DOD civilians; training and awareness activities, including further development of CyberCIEGE, a video game that cyber aspects of identity management; as well as continued course development and program maintenance.

Background

The importance of Identity Management and the need for focused training and education in IM have already been recognized. To address this problem, DON has taken the lead in IM education and has tasked the Naval Postgraduate School to lead the IM education effort. Now NPS is in the process of developing a comprehensive program in IM education that will include the following components:

  • Executive Education to provide high level management with an appreciation of the scope and complexity of IM and of the importance of a workforce able to utilize the enabling technology provided by IM systems.

  • Certificate Programs, which will be targeted to working DOD professionals who need to learn more about IM, but cannot take the time to complete an entire Masters degree.

  • Resident Degree Program for Military Officers and Civilians for both Masters and Ph.D. students. The pilot program will focus on degrees homed in the Departments of Computer Science and Information Science Departments.

  • Training, Awareness, and Educational Tools materials designed to help the entire workforce become familiar with IM technology and its application. This component includes the development of CyberCIEGE to support all aspects of the program.

  • Course Development and Maintenance, will ensure the continued effectiveness of the overall educational program. This facet of the effort will support maintenance of existing courses and the development of new courses pertinent to IM.
