Multi-Factor Authentication

accounts icon Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

NPS utilizes Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to access the network and web services. ITACS supports using your CAC card with PIN to logon to government-owned computers, while Microsoft Authenticator MFA with Email address and password is the alternative method when using BYOD and for those without a CAC. Initial CAC login will get you onto the network with single sign-on to enterprise applications.

Do all three of the following:

 Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication Registration

Add or modify multiple sign-in methods including the Microsoft Authenticator app. Detailed instructions for setting up your account with Microsoft MFA are available here.

 Enroll in Passwordless Authentication

Passwordless Authentication is a secure authentication method that allows you to login to Office 365 services using the Authenticator app. Detailed instructions for setting up your account with passwordless authentication are available here.

 CAC Registration

DoD CACs may be used for logon to NPS workstations, Office 365, and many other enterprise applications. To register and enable your account for CAC authentication to NPS-owned computers, visit https://nps.edu/group/technology/nps-cac-registration

Complete this process whenever you are issued a new CAC. You will still need to maintain a password and Microsoft MFA login as an alternative sign-in method.
